About Me

I am a freelance literary and academic translator, with a particular interest in history, philosophy and psychology. My work to date also includes children's and general interest books. I have broad experience of working with publishers in the UK, US and German-speaking countries, and regularly prepare reader's reports and sample translations. I also teach translation to undergraduates at the University of Kent, and am a co-chair of the Translators' Association committee.

My translation of Michael K√∂hlmeier's novel YIZA came out in November with Haus Publishing. It's a beautiful, disturbing child's-eye view of displacement and life on the margins of society, and you should definitely read it!  K√∂hlmeier's TWO GENTLEMEN ON THE BEACH, the story of a fictional friendship between Winston Churchill and Charlie Chaplin, is also published by Haus in my translation.

Charlotte Collins and I have recently finished our translation of Nino Haratischwili's epic family saga DAS ACHTE LEBEN, which will be published by Scribe in 2018. Dutch and French editions of the book are already out, with translations into several other languages underway, and we're excited that English-language readers will finally get to appreciate this wonderful novel as well.
